Provenance From the Office of the Architect of the Capitol. The Robinson Capitol Building Collection consists primarily of 100 photographs of the construction of the Senate and House wings of the Capitol and the Capitol dome between 1857 and 1862. There are also 1930s views of the residential areas near the Capitol prior to the extension of the Capitol grounds. Included are views of public buildings such as the Old State Department, Treasury, etc. There is also a photograph of the document establishing the seat of government in the District and one of Robert E. Lee with his son and aid.
